Theory Of Operation

The Dimmer Switch is integral to the Headlamp Switch. The Dimmer Switch is used to control the brightness of components that receive backlighting, such as the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), along with other various backlit components.

The Body Control Module (BCM) supplies and monitors a 5.0 volt reference voltage to the Headlamp/Dimmer Switch, through the Panel Lamps Driver circuit or Panel Lamps Dimmer Switch MUX Signal circuit. Based on the Headlamp/Dimmer Switch position, the BCM sets and adjusts the illumination output for the various backlit components.
