Component Functional Description - Hood Latch/Ajar Switch 2

Component Functional Operation:  The Hood Ajar Switch 2 is a hard-wired input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The switch receives a 5.0 volt signal from the PCM through an internal pull up resistor. When the ajar switch is open the signal passes through the internal resistor and the resistance through the switch should be approximately 1000 Ohms. When the ajar switch is closed the signal passes directly through the switch to the return circuit with no resistance. The resistor inside the Hood Ajar Switch allows the PCM the ability to detect the hood ajar status and diagnose the signal for an open condition. The PCM is not able to detect a short low in the signal since this would be the same input as hood ajar. This failure mode would be detected by the rationality fault that compares the signal to the Hood Ajar Switch 1 signal received over the Can Bus from the Body Control Module (BCM).
