Description And Operation
The Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) module is integral to the Radio Frequency Hub (RFH). The TPM system monitors the pressure of each tire and alerts the driver, through the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) when a low tire pressure condition exists or a abnormal condition exists.
The TPM comprises the following components:
- Tire pressure sensor control unit
- Tire pressure monitoring sensors located in the valve of each wheel
The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) module is able to receive individual tire pressure and temperature information from the TPM sensors located inside the road wheels. The TPM module has a Controller Area Network (CAN) interface to connect it to the vehicle CAN and carry out the following functions:
- Receives and processes the radio frequency data signals from each TPM sensor located inside each wheel
- Monitors the TPM sensor status
- Carries out self test
- Calculates information from TPM sensors to generate low pressure and malfunction warnings
- Transmits and receives information and status messages to the IPC and Body Control Module (BCM), on the CAN
- Carries out diagnostic functions
