Enabling/Set Conditions And Possible Causes - PTU/RDM Actuator Motor And OVERTEMP Faults

RDM SYSTEM ENABLING CONDITIONS AND FAULT SETTING CRITERIA:

MONITORING CONDITIONS
Actuator Motor DTCs
  • With the ignition on for 15.0 seconds or longer.
  • The actuator motor is being commanded to operate.
DTCS FAULT SETTING CRITERIA POSSIBLE CAUSES
(C2100-13/14/15, C2120-13/14/15) - Actuator Motor circuit faults
  • C2100-13/14/15 - RDM actuator motor
  • C2120-13/14/15 - PTU actuator motor
The DTCM detects an open or short circuit condition in the circuitry for one of the actuator motors.
  • Actuator motor control circuit shorted to voltage
  • Actuator motor control shorted to ground
  • Actuator motor control circuit open/high resistance
  • Faulty actuator motor
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
(C2160-04, C2200-04) - Power Stage faults
  • (C2160-04) - RDM Power Stage fault
  • (C2200-04) - PTU Power Stage fault
The DTCM detects a failure during the Power Stage self test diagnostics.
  • Actuator motor control circuit shorted to voltage
  • Actuator motor control shorted to ground
  • Actuator motor control circuit open/high resistance
  • Faulty actuator motor
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
(C2250-78) - RDM motor performance fault  The DTCM detects that the RDM clutch backlash is too high during operation.
  • Actuator motor circuits pinned incorrectly or damaged terminals
  • High resistance in the actuator motor control circuits
  • Damaged internal PTU or RDM assembly hardware components
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
(C2080-64, C2280-92) - motor current implausible faults
  • C2080-64 - RDM actuator motor
  • C2280-92 - PTU actuator motor
The DTCM detects that the actuator motor is not in the commanded position or is rotating in the opposite direction
  • Actuator motor circuits pinned incorrectly or damaged terminals
  • High resistance in the actuator motor control circuits
  • Damaged internal PTU or RDM assembly hardware components
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
(C2210-92, C2270-77) - motor performance faults
  • C2210-92 - RDM actuator motor
  • C2270-77 - PTU actuator motor
The DTCM detects that the actuator motor is not in the commanded position or is rotating in the opposite direction
  • Actuator motor circuits pinned incorrectly or damaged terminals
  • High resistance in the actuator motor control circuits
  • Damaged internal PTU or RDM assembly hardware components
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
(C2240-92, C2290-92) - motor free spinning faults
  • C2240-92 - RDM actuator motor
  • C2290-92 - PTU actuator motor
The DTCM detects that the actuator motor is in a free spinning condition
  • Actuator motor loose or not mounted correctly
  • Faulty actuator motor - damaged actuator motor shaft or gear - The RDM motor should not be replaced separately. Replace the RDM assembly if the motor is faulty
(C2300-00) - RDM Classification  The RDM classification value has not been learned in the DTCM
  • RDM classification value not learned in the DTCM
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
PTU and RDM Power Stage/Actuator overtemp faults
  • (RDM - C2100-98, PTU - C2170-98)
  • (RDM - C2150-98, PTU - C2180-98)
  • (RDM - C221D-98, PTU - C2190-98)
  • (RDM - C2230-98)
The DTCM detects an over temperature condition in the actuator Power Stage circuit. There are 3 severity levels of overtemp faults for the PTU and RDM actuators.
  • (RDM - C2100-98, PTU - C2170-98) - Power Stage has reached the overtemp warning threshold.
  • (RDM - C2150-98, PTU - C2180-98) - Power Stage has reached the overtemp deactivation threshold. Power Stage switched off.
  • (RDM - C221D-98, PTU - C2190-98) - Power Stage has reached the overtemp deactivation threshold several times during the ignition cycle. Power Stage switched off permanently.
  • (RDM - C2230-98) - RDM Clutch temperature is above 200°C or actuator temperature is above 160°C
  • System being overworked - driven aggressively
  • Fluid level low - excessive friction causing overheat
  • PTU not engaging properly - actuator overworking
  • RDM clutch friction plates slipping causing overheat
  • Faulty actuator motor - The RDM motor should not be replaced separately. Replace the RDM assembly if the motor is faulty
  • Faulty Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM)
