Diagnostic Test

NOTE:

Perform the following pre-diagnostic troubleshooting procedures prior to performing any diagnostic test.

NOTE:

Always perform diagnostics with a fully charged battery to avoid false symptoms.

  1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and harness connector terminals related to the ESL Module for physical damage and corrosion. Make sure related ground circuits are clean and tight. Clean or repair as necessary.
  2. Inspect the vehicle for any aftermarket accessories that may have been installed incorrectly.
  3. With a Scan Tool, read PCM, BCM, ABS, and RFHM DTCs. Repair all Communication and Security DTCs prior to performing ESL Module diagnostic procedures.
  4. With the scan tool, read and record all ESL Module DTCs. Record the ESL Module software version and variant ID (configuration or level).
  5. If the ESL Module was recently replaced, make sure the ESL Module was properly programmed.
  6. Check for Service Information Tune-ups or Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that may apply.
