Electronic Steering Lock ESL Programming Procedure
CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
NOTE:
When replacing an ESL Module, the ESL Module must be programmed.
NOTE:
Failure to properly program the ESL Module may result in the illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and setting DTC(s).
NOTE:
While performing the ESL Module programming procedure, the vehicle battery must be maintained between 10 and 16 volts. Ambient temperature must be between 0° C (32° F) 60° C (140° F). Vehicle must be in Park with brake pedal depressed.
- Turn the Ignition ON, Engine not running.
- With the scan tool, verify the ESL Module is communicating on the CAN BUS and it is not programmed.NOTE:
If the Scan Tool indicates that the ESL Module is already programmed, replace the ESL Module.
NOTE:If the Scan Tool can not communicate with the ESL Module, check the harness connections. If the harness connections are good, replace the ESL Module.
- Following the menu on the scan tool, program the ESL Module.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- With the scan tool, read ESL Module DTCs.
Does the scan tool display any DTCs?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure(s).
No
- Test Complete
- Perform the Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) Verification Test. Refer to ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK (ESL) VERIFICATION TEST .
