Off-Road Camera System: Notes
DESCRIPTION
The forward and rear view camera system can consist of the following components:
| 1. | Refer to: FRONT VIEW CAMERA (FVC) . |
| 2. | Refer to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) . |
| 3. | Refer to: CENTRAL VISION PROCESSING MODULE (CVPM) . |
| 4. | Refer to: REAR VIEW CAMERA (RVC) . |
| 5. | Refer to: RADIO . |
RVC - The RVC with trailer hitch zoom displays an on-screen mirrored image of the rear surroundings behind the vehicle whenever the gear shift lever is placed into "REVERSE" or "MANUALLY" activated from the radio screen. The system helps the driver judge the relative position and distance to obstacles behind the vehicle. When enabled, customer selectable Static Gridlines with the center line are overlaid on Backup Camera View. When enabled, customer selectable Dynamic Gridlines with the center line are overlaid on Backup Camera View.
FVC - The FVC displays the front image of the vehicle whenever activated from the radio screen. The system helps the driver to get a better view of the front of the vehicle for Off Road activity. When enabled, customer selectable Dynamic Tire Lines are overlaid on FVC view.
The FVC is capable of displaying camera images under the following conditions:
- The driver has enabled the system
- Ignition state is RUN
- Wheel speed signals are detected (any speeds)
- PRND status is detected (any gear)
The driver is able to enable to the FVC or the RVC with display via a touch screen control soft button entry in the radio menu.
Zoom View Requirements
Zoom in P ark - The CVPM receives a Control Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) bus message from the radio indicating the customer selectable zoom option has been requested. The CVPM confirms that the vehicle is in P ark based on an input from the BCM and that the vehicle speed does not indicate that the vehicle is in motion. Once these conditions are confirmed, the CVPM switches from backup camera view mode to a backup zoomed view once the Zoom (+) button is pressed on the video camera display. When pressing the (-) button, the CVPM switches from the zoomed view back to the backup camera view.
Zoom in R everse - The CVPM receives a Control Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) bus message from the radio indicating the customer selectable zoom option has been requested. The CVPM confirms that the vehicle is in R everse based on an input from the BCM and that the vehicle speed does not exceed 8 mph. Once these conditions are confirmed, the CVPM switches from backup camera view mode to a backup zoomed view once the Zoom (+) button is pressed on the video camera display. When pressing the (-) button, the CVPM switches from the zoomed view back to the backup camera view.
Zoom in N eutral - The CVPM receives a Control Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) bus message from the radio indicating the customer selectable zoom option has been requested. The CVPM confirms that the vehicle is in N eutral based on an input from the BCM and that the vehicle speed does not exceed 8 mph. Once these conditions are confirmed, the CVPM switches from backup camera view mode to a backup zoomed view once the Zoom (+) button is pressed on the video camera display. When pressing the (-) button, the CVPM switches from the zoomed view back to the backup camera view.
Zoom in D rive - The CVPM receives a Control Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) bus message from the radio indicating the customer selectable zoom option has been requested. The CVPM confirms that the vehicle is in D rive based on an input from the BCM and that the vehicle speed does not exceed 8 mph. Once these conditions are confirmed, the CVPM switches from backup camera view mode to a backup zoomed view once the Zoom (+) button is pressed on the video camera display. When pressing the (-) button, the CVPM switches from the zoomed view back to the backup camera view.
CVPM Front Camera Washing System - The FVC radio options include a "Clean Camera" soft button that the CVPM will highlight when needed. When this button is pressed, the CVPM activates a timed wash cycle for up to 20 seconds. The FVC has its own washer nozzle and pump connected near to it in order to perform the washing of the lens.
Grid Lines - RVC
- Dynamic - When enabled, dynamic grid lines are projected on the ground plane and overlaid on the backup camera view. The center line is overlaid with the dynamic grid line. The dynamic grid lines represent the maximum width of the vehicle plus an additional one inch per side and the projected path of the vehicle based on its direction of travel. These overlaid active dynamic grid lines are enabled/disabled via a touch screen control (soft button) in the personalization entry in the camera settings menu. The dynamic grid lines will not be present or function if the steering angle signal to the CVPM is absent or implausible.
- Static - When enabled, static grid lines are projected on the ground plane and overlaid on the backup camera view. The center line is overlaid with the static grid lines. The static grid lines represent the maximum width of the vehicle. The overlaid static grid lines can be enabled/disabled via a touch screen control (soft button) personalization entry in the camera settings menu.
Tire Lines - FVC - When enabled, tire lines are projected on the ground plane and overlaid on the front camera video image. The overlaid tire lines can be enabled/disabled via a touch screen control (soft button) personalization entry in the camera settings menu. The tire lines will not be present or function if the steering angle signal to the CVPM is absent or implausible.
Radio Soft Buttons for Camera Options - When any of the camera soft buttons for display are selected, the radio sends a signal over the bus to the CVPM with the request and awaits a return signal from the CVPM indicating that the display view is active. The radio then displays the proper camera video imagine.
Indication Strategy
- The CVPM image output resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels and the radio supports an aspect ration of 4:3.
- The CVPM overlays the following soft buttons on the backup camera view and the backup zoomed view:
- Backup Camera
- Zoom
- FVC
- Image Defeat
- The CVPM overlays the following soft buttons on the FVC view:
- FFC
- Backup Camera
- Clean Camera
- Image Defeat
- When the CVPM has incurred a communication error with any camera, the CVPM will blank the image from the faulty camera.
