Single Or Two-Way Washer Pump
| Refer to COMPONENT INDEX . |
This vehicle can be equipped with either a single direction washer pump or two-way washer pump. The single direction washer pump is used on vehicles not equipped with a front view camera, while the two-way washer pump is used on vehicles equipped with a front view camera.
The washer pump is located in a sump area near the bottom on the inboard side of the reservoir (LHD) or outboard side of the reservoir (RHD), except those that are equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine. On models equipped with the 3.0L diesel engine, the washer pump is located near the bottom of the rearward side of the washer reservoir.
The two-way washer pump features a reversible electric motor. The direction of the motor is controlled by hardwired outputs from the BCM. When battery current and ground are applied to the two pump motor terminals, the motor rotates in one direction. When the polarity of these connections is reversed, the motor rotates in the opposite direction. When the pump motor is energized, the rotor-type pump pressurizes the washer fluid and forces it through the appropriate pump outlet nipple and into the front or rear washer plumbing. The BCM controls the hardwired outputs to the pump motor based upon hardwired resistor multiplexed inputs received from the front and rear washer switch circuitry contained within the right (wiper) multifunction switch.
Washer fluid is drawn through the pump inlet nipple from the washer reservoir to the inlet port of the washer pump housing. An integral valve body is located in a housing on the outlet port side of the pump housing. A diaphragm in this valve body controls which washer system plumbing receives the washer fluid being pressurized by the pump. When the pump impeller rotates, the pressurized washer fluid is pushed out through the pump outlet port and the washer outlet nipple.
On models that are equipped with the optional FVC, the washer pump is a two-way pump that supplies washer fluid to the camera lens nozzle whenever the washer pump is activated by a CAN message from the CVPM to the BCM. The soft key can be pressed for up to 20 seconds and the washer will continue to pump fluid to the FVC. If the soft key on the radio touchscreen is pressed and held for more than 20 seconds, the CVPM deactivates the BCM and the washer pump will stop running. The pump can be activated again by pressing the soft key again.
The CVPM will display the Clean Camera soft key on the radio touchscreen and will be functional when the BCM has not sent an error message to the CVPM. If the BCM sends and error message to the CVPM, the Clean Camera soft key will be non-functional and grayed out on the radio touchscreen.
