Common Problem Causes
PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION:
- Verify that the transmission fluid level is at the proper cold fill level.
- Inspect the exterior of the transmission for evidence of fluid leaks.
- Inspect the exterior of the transmission for mechanical issues such as improper shift cable routing, loose transfer case bolts, transmission mounting bolts, or propeller shaft bolts.
- Verify clutch disengagement if the clutch pedal is depressed.
- Verify there is not any unintended wheel rotation:
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Shift into first gear.
- Depress the clutch pedal.
- Start the engine. The wheels should not rotate.
- Inspect witness marks on bolts and switches for proper orientation.NOTE:
Witness marks that are not oriented properly indicate potential disassembly after the vehicle was released from the plant.
CAUTION:
Use only the manufacturer recommended fluid in this transmission, internal component damage will result if other fluids are used.
