With 3.0L Diesel: Notes
REMOVAL
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE
.NOTE:
If the vehicle is equipped with a cam bolt service kit, paint or scribe marks on the cam adjuster and the control arm for installation reference.
- Using a suitable stand support the front axle assembly.
- Remove the upper control arm front nut and the upper control arm front bolt.
1 - Upper Control Arm Front Bolt - Remove and DISCARD
the two heat shield bolts and remove and DISCARD
the heat shield.
1 - Heat Shield Bolts 2 - Heat Shield - Unthread the upper control arm rear bolt and pull it out as far as possible, retain the flag nut to be reused.
1 - Upper Control Arm Rear Bolt 2 - Upper Control Arm - Cut the upper control arm rear bolt to allow the bolt to be removed due to insufficient clearance to exhaust.
- Remove the upper control arm.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
NOTE:
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
NOTE:
The paint dot located on the control arm should face outboard. If paint dot is not visible, the bend should point inboard, and the short end should attach to the axle side.
NOTE:
All upper control arm bolts must be installed inboard to outboard.
- Perform the wheel alignment procedure. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
