Engine Control Module (ECM)

  1. Using a voltmeter, check for battery voltage at power terminals listed in table by application. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at Ignition terminals. Turn ignition off. Using a voltmeter, check for battery voltage between power supply and ground terminals. See ECM POWER & GROUND TERMINALS  table.

  2. If battery voltage is not present, check appropriate fuses. On Sephia, check ECM B+ fuse (10-amp) in passenger compartment fuse box and INJ fuse (10-amp) and IGN COILS fuse (15-amp) in engine compartment fuse/relay box. On Sportage, check ECU fuse (10-amp) in passenger compartment fuse box and MAIN fuse (15-amp) and FUEL INJ fuse (30-amp) in engine compartment fuse/relay box. Replace fuse(s) as necessary and check for cause of blown fuse. If fuses are okay, check EGI main relay. See RELAYS  under RELAYS & SOLENOIDS. If relay is okay, locate and repair open between main relay and ECM connector.
