Component Inspection

  1. IG KEY: OFF, Engine: OFF
  2. Disconnect MAP sensor connector (B-14).
  3. Measure resistance between terminals 1 and 3 of the MAP sensor connector B-14.
    1. Specification: Approx at 30 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
Fig 1: Measuring Resistance Between Terminals 1 And 3 Of MAP Sensor Connector B-14

  4. Connect MAP sensor connector (B-14).
  5. Remove MAP sensor and IG KEY: ON
  6. Using s hand-held vacuum pump, apply vacuum and measure the "MAP SENSOR" parameter on scantool.
    1. Specification:
      VACUUM VOLTAGE REFERENCE CHART

      Applied Vacuum Output Voltage
      10 kPa (100 mbar) 0.06V
      15 kPa (150 mbar) 0.25V
      40 kPa (400 mbar) 1.3V
      80 kPa (800 mbar) 3V
      120 kPa (1200 mbar) 4.8V
  7. Is the sensor's signal near the specified value?

    YES

    1. MAP sensor is OK.
    2. Possibility of ECM fail.
    3. Test with a new ECM and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected replace ECM and go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

    NO

    1. Test with a new MAP sensor and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected, replace MAP sensor.
    2. And go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
