On-Vehicle Inspection
- Perform spark test
- Remove the engine cover.
- Remove the ignition coils.
- Remove the spark plugs.
- Disconnect the 4 injector connectors.
- Connect the spark plug to the ignition coils.
- Ground the spark plug to the engine.
- Check if sparks occur at each spark plug while engine is being cranked.NOTE: Do not crank the engine for more then 5 seconds.
- Connect the 4 injector connectors.
- Install the spark plugs and ignition coils.
- Install the cylinder head center cover and engine cover.
- Check spark plug
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the insulation resistance.
Specification: 10 MΩ or more
- Alternative inspection method
- Accelerate the engine to about 3, 000 RPM 3 times or more.
- Remove the spark plug.
- Check the spark plug visually.
If the electrode is dry, the spark plug is normal.
If the electrode is wet, check the damage and electrode gap.
- Install the spark plug.
- Check the spark plug electrode gap.
If the gap is not within the specification below, replace the spark plug.
Specification: 0.9 ~ 1.0 mm (0.035 ~ 0.039 in.)
NOTE: When adjusting the gap of a new spark plug, bend only the base of the ground electrode. Do not touch the tip.
Do not attempt to adjust the gap of a used plug.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the insulation resistance.
