The Variable fuel pump system controls fuel feed rate of low pressure fuel pump by voltage control based on RPM, road.

It has following positive aspects compared with mechanically regulated fuel pump: low current consumption rate as it optimizes fuel feed rate, higher fuel efficiency, low pump noise and longer lifetime of the fuel pump.

PCM sets target fuel pressure and sends it to fuel pump control module (FPCM).

FPCM controls low pressure fuel pump to adjust actual to target pressure based on fuel pressure sensor.
