Ignition System Inspection

Ignition Coil Inspection 

1. Refer to "appropriate service information" and visually and/or physically inspect following conditions:
   • Damage, cracks, carbon and flashover.
   • Poor connection or damaged harness.
2. Connect VMI to KDS and set up an oscilloscope as follow (2-channel);

   Channel A (+): Ground terminal of Ignition coil.

   Channel A (-): Chassis ground

   Channel B (+): Control terminal of Ignition coil.

   Channel B (-): Chassis ground

3. Ignition "ON"& Engine "ON"

   Specification:  Refer to Figure below

4. Has any problems been found?

   YES 

   • Replace or repair as necessary and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

   NO 

   • Go to "Spark Plug Inspection" procedure below.

Spark Plug Inspection 

1. Refer to "appropriate service information" and visually and/or physically inspect following conditions:
   • Damaged insulation, worn electrodes, oil or fuel fouled, loose terminals and cracks.
2. Measure the electrode gap.

   Specification:  Approx. 0.0314 to 0.0354 in (0.8 to 0.9mm)

3. Has any problems been found?

   YES 

   • Replace or repair as necessary and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

   NO 

   • Go to "FUEL SYSTEM INSPECTION " procedure.
