Ignition System Inspection
Ignition Coil Inspection
- Refer to
"appropriate service information" and visually and/or physically inspect following conditions:
- Damage, cracks, carbon and flashover.
- Poor connection or damaged harness.
- Connect VMI to KDS and set up an oscilloscope as follow (2-channel);
Channel A (+): Ground terminal of Ignition coil.
Channel A (-): Chassis ground
Channel B (+): Control terminal of Ignition coil.
Channel B (-): Chassis ground
- Ignition "ON"& Engine "ON"
Specification: Refer to Figure below
- Has any problems been found?
YES
- Replace or repair as necessary and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
NO
- Go to "Spark Plug Inspection" procedure below.
Spark Plug Inspection
- Refer to
"appropriate service information" and visually and/or physically inspect following conditions:
- Damaged insulation, worn electrodes, oil or fuel fouled, loose terminals and cracks.
- Measure the electrode gap.
Specification: Approx. 0.0314 to 0.0354 in (0.8 to 0.9mm)
- Has any problems been found?
YES
- Replace or repair as necessary and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
NO
- Go to "FUEL SYSTEM INSPECTION " procedure.
