System Function

The front camera (FR_CMR) supports the following functions using the recognition information (lane/light source/vehicle/pedestrian/Cyclist) of the front camera and vehicle signal information (CAN communication).

  1. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA):

This is a driving safety system that warns the driver of danger and assists in braking the vehicle for the purpose of assisting in preventing collision with forward obstacles while driving.

The FCA detects the relative position/speed of the front obstacle (vehicle/pedestrian/cyclist) by using the front camera and the front radar. When a collision with the front obstacle is expected, the FCA warns the driver by giving a visual/audible warning and assist braking to avoid any collision.

The driver should always keep an eye on the front traffic conditions for safety in case of the front camera/front radar may not detect obstacles normally.

    1. When the camera FCA is applied only: It responds to the vehicle/pedestrian and a brake command is transmitted from the front camera.
    2. When the sensor fusion FCA is applied: It responds to the vehicle/pedestrian/Cyclist/JT (Junction) and transmits the recognition information to the front radar.

Forward Collision-avoidance Assist-Junction Turning (FCA-JT): Assist in preventing a collision with a large vehicle approaching from the opposite side when turning left at a junction by warning and braking

  2. Lane Keeping Assist (LKA):

This is a safety driving system to prevent from the possible accident in advance. If it is determined that the vehicle has departed from the driving lane, it warns the driver and controls the steering.

LKA considers whether the lane recognized by the front camera and turn signals are operated, and when it is determined that the vehicle is departing the lane, it warns the driver with visual icon on the cluster, audible sound and haptic feel, and assists the steering to stay in the lane.

In case of the front camera cannot detect the lane, it may not work normally.

  3. Driver Attention Warning (DAW)  : When it is determined that the driver is driving carelessly, a warning is given to the driver to prevent accidents.

The DAW analyzes the driver's driving pattern by considering the lane information recognized by the front camera and the vehicle speed/steering angle/brake operation, and it warns the driver by giving a visual/audible warning when it is determined that the driver is driving carelessly.

In case of the front camera cannot recognize the surrounding situation, it may not operate normally.

  4. High Beam Assist (HBA):

For the purpose of ensuring the maximum visible distance and minimizing glare to other drivers in the night and dim condition, it controls the vehicle's high beam operation.

The HBA uses the front camera to recognize whether there is a light source from the front vehicle/oncoming vehicle/street lights, and turns off the high beam if there is a light source and turns on the high beam if there is no light source.

In case of the front camera cannot recognize the surrounding situation, it may not operate normally.

  5. Lane Following Assist (LFA):

The LFA is a driving control system that assists the steering to maintain the vehicle in the center of the lane based on the lane information recognized by the front camera for the purpose of reducing driving effort while driving.

The driver should always keep an eye on the front for safety in case of the front camera cannot detect the lane normally.

  6. Highway Driving Assist (HDA):

The HDA is a driving comfort system that controls the steering/acceleration/deceleration by setting the vehicle speed and the safe distance from the vehicle in front, and also by maintaining the vehicle's position in the center of the lane for the purpose of reducing driving effort while driving on an expressway or a freeway.

The HDA controls the steering and acceleration/deceleration to keep the vehicle driving in the center of the lane and maintain the safe distance from the front driving vehicle, considering the distance and speed by front camera/radar recognized when the driver set the speed.

HDA is cancelled when the driver presses the Cancel switch or depressed the brake pedal. It gives a visual/audible warning when HDA considers the driver doesn't hold the steering wheel for more than a certain amount of time and if it determines the driver continues not to hold the steering wheel, it is cancelled automatically.
