Cruise Control Systems: Description: Notes
On all models, the cruise control system enables the driver to maintain a constant road speed without using accelerator pedal. This is particularly useful for freeway cruising, or for any journey where a constant speed can be maintained for a lengthy period. Cruise control system has three switches: a master on/off switch (located on the instrument panel) and 2 steering wheel control switches, marked SET+ (set/accelerate) and RES (resume/decelerate). Cruise control will maintain vehicle speeds between 25-125 MPH.
To operate, press master on/off switch (indicator light in the switch should illuminate). Accelerate until desired speed is reached. Press SET+ switch to set vehicle speed in cruise control system's memory. Cruise control will now maintain selected road speed, without the need for operation of the accelerator pedal. With cruise control operating, speed can be increased temporarily, by normal use of the accelerator. When accelerator pedal is released, road speed will return to selected cruising speed.
To reduce cruising speed, lightly depress brake pedal to slow the vehicle until desired speed has been reached, then press SET+ switch one time to establish a new cruising speed. If brake pedal is not used, briefly press RES switch one time to cut off cruise control operation, vehicle will slow gradually. When desired speed has been reached, press SET+ switch one time to establish a new cruising speed.
To increase set cruising speed, press and hold SET+ switch. Release switch when desired speed has been reached. Vehicle will continue to accelerate until switch is released. Set speed can be increased incrementally, by tapping SET+ switch. For each tap, speed will increase one MPH, 5 taps will increase speed 5 MPH.
If brake pedal is pressed or gear selector lever is moved into Neutral position, cruise control will automatically disengage. If RES switch is briefly pressed one time, cruise control will be disengaged allowing vehicle to slow down gradually. If required, pressing RES switch again will reengage cruise control at previously set speed. Set speed in cruise control memory will be cancelled, when either cruise control master on/off switch or ignition switch are turned off.
