Transfer Case - Overview (G1520698): Overview

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 16 other vehicles, including the 2015 Jaguar XFR-S, 2015 Jaguar XFR, 2015 Jaguar XF, 2014 Jaguar XFR-S, and 2014 Jaguar XFR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The transfer case is a 'torque on demand' coupling, which is controlled by a Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM). The unit is manufactured by Magna.

The transfer case can adjust the driveline output from Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) to All Wheel Drive (AWD) depending on driving style and road surface conditions.

The TCCM is located on the underside of the transfer case. The TCCM is connected on the high speed Controller Area Network (CAN) bus and receives data from various control modules including the Engine Control module (ECM) and the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module. Using information from other control modules the TCCM can determine the required torque to be applied to the front wheels via an electronically controlled clutch and gear drive to the front driveshaft.

The driver can indirectly select AWD settings through selection of the Jaguar Drive Control (JDC) modes (normal mode, winter mode and dynamic mode).
