Transmission Description (G2162861): Overview
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
The ZF 8P75XPH transmission is an electronically controlled, hydraulically operated, 8 speed automatic unit, unique to the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
The ZF 8P75XPH transmission is similar in design to the conventional ZF 8HP70 transmission but has the following major differences:
- Torque converter is replaced with a Crank Integrated Motor Generator (CIMG) and a separate Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF).
- Brake 'B' is used as a 'Launch Clutch' to start the vehicle moving from standstill in place of the traditional torque converter functionality.
The ZF 8P75XPH transmission has the following features:
- Designed to be maintenance free.
- ATF is replaced as indicated in the service check sheets.
- Engine disconnect clutch to disengage engine from the CIMG when vehicle is operating in Electric Vehicle (EV) mode.
- Shift programs controlled by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Adaptive Shift Strategy (ASIS), to provide continuous adaption of shift changes to suit the driving style of the driver, which can vary from sporting to economical.
- Connected to the PCM through the FlexRay bus for communications.
- Support diagnostic services available from the TCM through the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) powertrain systems bus.
The transmission selections are made using the linear TCS in the floor console.
The PHEV 2.0l Ingenium Petrol engine features auto stop/start technology. The electric ATF pump makes sure pressurized ATF is available to the shift elements as quickly as possible when the engine is started.
