Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Disconnect distributor 4-pin connector. Measure resistance between terminal No. 4 (Green wire) and terminals No. 2 (Red wire) and No. 3 (White wire) at distributor connector.
  2. Resistance should be 125-200 ohms with engine temperature at less than 122°F (50°C), or 160-235 ohms with engine temperature at more than 122°F (50°C). If resistance is not as specified, replace distributor. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Inspect wiring harness between ECM and distributor for open or short circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  4. Remove distributor cap. Measure air gap of pick-up coils G1, G2 and NE. If air gap is .008-.020" (.20-.50 mm), replace ECM and retest. If air gap is not within specification, replace distributor.
