Without Hand-Held Tester
- Turn the steering wheel to the neutral position and turn the ignition switch off. Check that the shift lever position is at P.
- Using special tool (09843-18040), jumper terminals Ts and CG of DLC3. See Figure.
- Start the engine and check that the VSC warning light flashes. If the VSC warning light does not flash, inspect the VSC warning light circuit and Ts terminal circuit. See SYSTEM TESTS .
- When a new ABS/TRAC control module (or skid control ECU) is installed, start the engine and keep the vehicle in stationary condition on a flat place for 3 seconds or more to initialize it.
- Check the steering angle sensor from the stationary condition by turning the steering wheel to either left or right to the full lock position. Then turn back to the neutral position. If the steering angle sensor is faulty, this will return an appropriate DTC.
- Check the yaw rate sensor by shifting the shift lever to D and drive the vehicle at approximately 3 MPH. Turn the steering wheel either left or right 90° or more, and maintain 180° circular drive. Stop the vehicle, shift to P and check that the VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds. If the VSC buzzer sounds, the sensor check is completed normally. If the VSC buzzer does not sound, check the VSC buzzer circuit. See TEST J: VSC BUZZER CIRCUIT . Perform the yaw rate sensor check again.
- If the VSC buzzer still does not sound there is a malfunction in the VSC sensor. Check the DTC. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .
- Drive the vehicle in a 180° circle. At the end of the turn, the direction of the vehicle should be within 175° to 185° of its start position. Do not spin the wheels.
- Using special tool (09843-18040), jumper terminals Tc and CG of DLC3. See Figure.
- Read the number of flashes of the VSC warning light. If any DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- If every sensor is normal, there is a normal code output. If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
- Disconnect the special tool and turn the ignition switch off.
