Inspection Procedure

HINT:

According to the DATA LIST displayed by the OBD II scan tool or Hand-held tester, you can read the value of the switch, sensor, actuator and so on without parts removal. Reading the DATA LIST as a first step of troubleshooting is one method to shorten labor time.

  1. Warm up the engine.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Connect the OBD II scan tool or Hand-held tester to the DLC3.
  4. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  5. Push the "ON" button of OBD II scan tool or Hand-held tester.
  6. Select the item "/DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD l l/DATA LIST/ALL (or ATM)".
  7. According to the display on tester, read the "DATA LIST".

  1. Check park/neutral position switch. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Jack up the vehicle.
    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    CHECK: 

    Check continuity between each terminal shown below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

    OK: 

    SHIFT POSITION AND TERMINAL NO. TO CONTINUITY

    Shift position Terminal No. to continuity Terminal No. to continuity
    P 1-3 6-9
    R 2-3 -
    N 3-5 6-9
    D, 4 3-7 -
    3 3-4 -
    2, L 3-8 -
    1. NG : Replace park/neutral position switch (See  PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION (PNP) SWITCH  ). 
    2. OK : Go to Next Step. 
  2. Check transmission control switch. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the shift lock control computer connector (transmission control switch).

    CHECK: 

    Check continuity between each terminal of shift lock control computer (transmission control switch).

    OK:

    1. NG : Replace the transmission control switch (See  FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY  ). 
    2. OK : Go to Next Step. 
  3. Measure voltage between each terminals of NSW, P, R, N, D, 4, 3, 2, L and E1 of ECM. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the shift lock control computer connector (transmission control switch).
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK: 

    Measure voltage between each terminals NSW, P, R, N, D, 4, 3, 2, L and E1 of ECM when the shift lever is shifted to the following positions.

    OK:

    1. OK : Check and replace the ECM (See  PROCEDURE  ). 
    2. NG : Repair or replace the harness or connector (See  PROCEDURE  ).
