NOTE: When replacing the ABS and TRACTION actuator assembly, perform zero point calibration (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS  ).

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 when using the intelligent tester and from step 3 when not using the intelligent tester.

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION) 
    1. Using the intelligent tester, check for any momentary interruption in the wire harness and connector corresponding to a DTC (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ).

      DATA LIST: ABS/VSC 

      DATA LIST ABS/VSC

      FR SPD OPN FR speed sensor open detection / ERROR or NORMAL ERROR: Momentary interruption NORMAL: Normal

      OK: 

      There are no momentary interruptions. 

      HINT:

      Perform the above inspection before removing the sensor and connector.

    NG : CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT) 

    OK : Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (FRONT SPEED SENSOR) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the intelligent tester.

      DATA LIST: ABS/VSC

    4. Check that there is no difference between the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the intelligent tester and the speed value displayed on the speedometer when driving the vehicle.

      OK: 

      The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the intelligent tester is the same as the actual vehicle speed.

    5. Check that the sensor signal conforms to the wheel direction.

      OK: 

      The wheel direction is displayed. 

    NG : Go to step   5 

    OK : Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM TEST MODE (SIGNAL CHECK) 
    1. Perform sensor signal check in TEST MODE PROCEDURE  .

      OK: 

      All test mode DTCs are erased. 

    NG : Go to step   5 

    OK : Go to next step 

  4. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Drive the vehicle at the speed of 32 mph (20 km/h) or more for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Check that the same DTC is recorded (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed To
      DTCs (C0200/31 and C0205/32) are not output A
      DTCs (C0200/31 and C0205/32) are output B

      HINT:

      • It is suspected that the DTCs were output due to a bad connection of the connector terminal.
      • If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the problem symptoms table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).

    B : Go to step   11 

    A : END 

  5. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION 
    1. Check the speed sensor installation.

      OK (2WD): 

      There is no clearance between the sensor and the front steering knuckle. 

      OK (4WD): 

      There is no clearance between the sensor and the front steering knuckle. 

      The installation bolt is tightened properly. 

      Torque: 

      8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after the replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE  ).

    NG : CHECK AND REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR 

    OK : Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT SPEED SENSOR TIP 
    1. Remove the front speed sensor (See DISASSEMBLY  or BRAKE CONTROL FRONT SPEED SENSOR (FOR 4WD)  ).
    2. Check the sensor tip.

      OK: 

      No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip. 

      NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after the cleaning/replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE  ).

    NG : CLEAN OR REPLACE SPEED SENSOR 

    OK : Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control sensor wire.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance: 

      RH 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      h1 ("A"-2) - h1 ("B"-1) Below 1 Ω
      h1 ("A"-2) - h1 ("B"-2) 10 kΩ or higher
      h1 ("A"-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      h1 ("A"-1) - h1 ("B"-2) Below 1 Ω
      h1 ("A"-1) - h1 ("B"-1) 10 kΩ or higher
      h1 ("A"-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      LH 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      i1 ("A"-2) - i1 ("B"-1) Below 1 Ω
      i1 ("A"-2) - i1 ("B"-2) 10 kΩ or higher
      i1 ("A"-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      i1 ("A"-1) - i1 ("B"-2) Below 1 Ω
      i1 ("A"-1) - i1 ("B"-1) 10 kΩ or higher
      i1 ("A"-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE  ).

    NG : REPLACE SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE 

    OK : Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU TO FRONT SPEED SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector and the front speed sensor connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance: 

      RH 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A6-3 (FR+) - h1-2 (FR+) Below 1 Ω
      A6-17 (FR-) - h1-1 (FR-) Below 1 Ω

      LH 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A6-18 (FL+) - i1-2 (FL+) Below 1 Ω
      A6-4 (FL-) - i1-1 (FL-) Below 1 Ω
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance: 

      RH 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A6-3 (FR+) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      A6-17 (FR-) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      LH 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      A6-18 (FL+) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      A6-4 (FL-) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT) 

    OK : Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the speed sensor connector.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      h1-2 (FR+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 7.5 to 12 V
      i1-2 (FL+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 7.5 to 12 V

    NG : REPLACE ABS AND TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

    OK : Go to next step 

  10. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Drive the vehicle at the speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) or more for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Check that the same DTC is recorded (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      HINT:

      Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the vehicle to its prior condition before rechecking for DTCs.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed To
      DTCs (C0200/31 and C0205/32) are not output A
      DTCs (C0200/31 and C0205/32) are output B

      HINT:

      If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the problem symptoms table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).

    B : Go to step 11 

    A : END 

  11. REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Replace the front speed sensor.
      NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after replacement (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE  ).

    NEXT 

  12. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Drive the vehicle at the speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) or more for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Check that the same DTC is recorded (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      HINT:

      Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the vehicle to its prior condition before rechecking for DTCs.
