Unable to Lock Steering Wheel: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LOCK/UNLOCK RECEIVE) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the steering lock command is functioning properly.

      Yes: Steering lock/unlock signal received
      No: Steering lock/unlock signal not received

      OK

      The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) receives an unlock request signal within 10 seconds of starting the engine, and "Yes" is displayed on the Techstream screen.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT STEERING LOCK ECU (STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Move the shift lever to P.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F37-3 (IGE) - F37-1 (GND) Steering lock motor operating immediately after turning the engine switch from off to on (IG) Below 1 V
      F37-3 (IGE) - F37-1 (GND) Steering lock motor not operating 11 to 14 V

      (Steering Lock ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEERING LOCK ECU - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the F8 power management control ECU connector.

      *1 Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Power Management Control ECU)
      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Steering Lock ECU)
    2. Disconnect the F37 steering lock ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F37-3 (IGE) - F8-8 (SLR+) Always Below 1 Ω
      F37-3 (IGE) or F8-8 (SLR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   13 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FL DOOR COURTESY SW) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the front door courtesy switch LH is functioning properly.

      Main Body

      ON: Front door LH open
      OFF: Front door LH closed

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (S CODE) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the S code certification is functioning properly.

  6. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (L CODE) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the L code certification is functioning properly.

  7. REPLACE STEERING LOCK ECU (STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Replace the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly). Refer to DISASSEMBLY [03/2012 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK STEERING LOCK RELEASED BY USUAL IGNITION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Operate the steering wheel and check the steering lock condition.

      OK

      Steering lock is released.

    NG → See step   15 

    OK → END (STEERING LOCK ECU (STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  9. REPLACE ID CODE BOX (IMMOBILISER CODE ECU) 
    1. Replace the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU). Refer to REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  10. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (S CODE) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the S code certification is functioning properly.

  11. REPLACE ID CODE BOX (IMMOBILISER CODE ECU) 
    1. Replace the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU). Refer to REMOVAL [03/2012 - ] .

  12. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (L CODE) 
    1. Use the Data List to check if the L code certification is functioning properly.

  14. INSPECT LIGHTING SYSTEM. Refer to  Door Courtesy Switch Circuit 
  15. REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2012 - 07/2012]
