DTC P0504: Brake Switch "A" / "B" Correlation [09/2014 - 10/2015]: Procedure

  1. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A5-1 (B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Stop Light Switch Assembly)

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - BATTERY) 

    Result: 

    OK

  2. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch assembly connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A5-5 (B) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (to Stop Light Switch Assembly)

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A5-3 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK ECM (STP AND ST1- VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A19-12 (ST1-) - Body ground Brake pedal released 7.5 to 14 V
      Brake pedal depressed Below 1.5 V
      A19-13 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 1.5 V
      Brake pedal depressed 7.5 to 14 V

      *c Component with harness connected
      (ECM)

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - 10/2015] )

    NG

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A5-2 (L) - A19-13 (STP) Always Below 1 Ω
      A5-4 (L) - A19-12 (ST1-) Always Below 1 Ω
      A5-2 (L) or A19-13 (STP) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A5-4 (L) or A19-12 (ST1-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - NO. 1 INTEGRATION RELAY) 
    1. Remove the No. 1 integration relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.
    2. Disconnect the stop light switch assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A5-5 (B) - 2F-6 Always Below 1 Ω
      A5-5 (B) or 2F-6 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    GO TO ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 

    (Refer to ECM Power Source Circuit [09/2014 - 10/2015] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
