Installation [12/2017 - 09/2019]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. w/o VGRS:
      1. Connect the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly to the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

        NOTE:

        Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

      2. Temporarily install the bolt.
    2. w/ VGRS:
      1. Connect the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly to the steering actuator assembly.

        NOTE:

        Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly and steering actuator assembly.

      2. Temporarily install the bolt.
  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (w/o VGRS for 2WD) 
    1. Install the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly to the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
      NOTE:

      Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly and rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.

    2. Using a SST and 12 mm union nut wrench, Install the bolt.
      • SST: 09961-00950 

      Specified tightening torque 

      Torque: 35.3 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

      *a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

      HINT: 

      • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2017 - 10/2020]

      • When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 20 mm (0.787 in.)) + SST (fulcrum length of 150 mm (5.906 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.087 in.)): 18.2 N*m (186 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf)
    3. Tighten the clamp.
  4. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Install the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly to the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
      NOTE:

      Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35.3 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    3. Tighten the clamp.
  5. INSTALL STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS) 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 10/2023]

  6. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. w/o VGRS for 2WD:
      1. Install the steering column assembly to the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
        NOTE:

        Align the matchmarks on the steering column assembly and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

    2. For AWD:

      1. Install the steering column assembly to the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
        NOTE:

        Align the matchmarks on the steering column assembly and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

    3. w/ VGRS:
      1. Install the steering column assembly to the steering actuator assembly.
        NOTE:

        Align the matchmarks on the steering column assembly and steering actuator assembly.

    4. Install the steering column assembly with the 2 nuts and bolt.

      Nut 

      Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) 

      bolt 

      Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

    5. w/o VGRS for 2WD:
      1. Install the bolt.

        Torque: 35.3 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    6. For AWD:
      1. Install the bolt.

        Torque: 35.3 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    7. w/ VGRS:
      1. Install the bolt.

        Torque: 35.3 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    8. Connect each connector and engage each wire harness clamp to the steering column assembly.
    9. Tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 35.3 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

  7. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 186 [12/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 186 [09/2018 - 10/2020]

  8. INSTALL TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 187 [12/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 187 [09/2018 - 10/2020]

  9. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH (for AWD) 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 10/2023]

  10. INSTALL NO. 1 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
    1. Install the No. 1 heater to register duct with the 2 screws.

  11. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Insert the No. 1 air duct sub-assembly in the direction of the arrow shown in the illustration to install it with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf)

  12. INSTALL LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 10/2020]

  13. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
    • Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly without the steering wheel assembly installed, with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
    • Ensure that the steering wheel assembly is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
    1. Using pliers, support the band clamp while loosened and set the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

    2. Engage the claw to install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Install in this Direction
    3. Tighten the band clamp.
    4. Connect each connector to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  14. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the claw to install the upper steering column cover.

      Install in this Direction
    2. Attach the guides and claws in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration.

  15. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Insert the lower steering column cover in the direction indicated by the arrow.
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch and felt.

      Install in this Direction
    2. Engage the 2 claws.
    3. Engage the claw to install the lower steering column cover to the upper steering column cover.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the felt.

    4. Install the 3 screws.
  16. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  17. INSPECT AND ADJUST SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  18. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 10/2023] 

  19. CHECK STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  20. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 10/2020]

  21. CUSTOMIZE POWER TILT AND POWER TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN SYSTEM 
    1. Reset the auto tilt away function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter.

      Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [12/2017 - ]

  22. PERFORM VARIABLE GEAR RATIO STEERING SYSTEM CALIBRATION (w/ VGRS) 

    Refer to CALIBRATION [12/2017 - 10/2023]

  23. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 

    Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2018 - 10/2020]
