DTC P085D-94: Gear Shift Control Module "A" Unexpected Operation [12/2017 - 09/2018]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (TRANSMISSION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes 

    4. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      None of the DTCs in the table below are output. A
      Any of the DTCs in the table below are output. B
      Priority Relevant DTC
      1 U1107-00 Lost Communication with Power Management Module (Gear Shift Control Module "A")
      2 P0720-31 Output Speed Sensor No Signal
      P0720-14 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Short to Ground or Open
      P0720-12 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Short to Battery
      W/ VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER:

      3 C1405, C1406 Open or Short in Front Speed Sensor Circuit
      C1407, C1408 Open or Short in Rear Speed Sensor Circuit
      C1413, C1414 Front Speed Sensor Output Malfunction
      C1415, C1416 Rear Speed Sensor Output Malfunction
      W/O VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER:

      3 C1464 Front Speed Sensor RH Circuit
      C1465 Front Speed Sensor LH Circuit
      C1466 Rear Speed Sensor RH Circuit
      C1467 Rear Speed Sensor LH Circuit

      HINT: 

      The chart above is listed in inspection order of priority.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART 

    Result:

  2. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes / P085D-94 / Freeze Frame Data / Vehicle Speed, Speed (SP2).

      Powertrain > Transmission 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range
      Vehicle Speed Vehicle speed Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph)
      Max.: 255 km/h (158 mph)
      Speed (SP2) Output shaft speed Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph)
      Max.: 255 km/h (158 mph)
    4. Read the freeze frame data of DTC P085D-94.

      Powertrain > Transmission > DTC(P085D-94) > Freeze Frame Data 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Speed
      Speed (SP2)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Vehicle was stopped ("Vehicle Speed" was between 0 and 1.4 km/h (0 and 1 mph)) but "Speed (SP2)" was 3 km/h (2 mph) or more A
      Vehicle was stopped ("Vehicle Speed" was between 0 and 1.4 km/h (0 and 1 mph)) and "Speed (SP2)" was less than 3 km/h (2 mph) B
    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    Result: 

    REPLACE SHIFT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 09/2018]

  3. CHECK VEHICLE TYPE 
    1. Check if the vehicle is equipped with a brake booster assembly.

      Result

  4. CHECK SPEED SENSOR

    REPLACE SHIFT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 09/2018]

    REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

  5. CHECK SPEED SENSOR 

    Result

    Proceed to
    OK
    NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE SHIFT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 09/2018] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS
