Mirrors - Power: Description

Electrically powered side mirror assemblies consist of a mirror head with an integral servo motor, and a switch for controlling mirror adjustment. Switch is located on driver's seat console (Continental), on center console (Cougar, Mark VII and Thunderbird), or on driver's door armrest (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Sable, Taurus and Town Car).

Mirror may be moved up, down, left or right by moving the switch knob in those directions. On the Sable and Taurus, a selector switch controls which mirror is to be adjusted. Selector switch should be in "NEUTRAL" position when the adjustment is not needed. Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Town Car models may also have a heating element in the mirror for defrosting.

On some models, electronic rear view mirror automatically "flips" to reduce glare during night driving. Mirror is controlled by 2 light sensitive photocells. The outside light level is measured by a sensor on the back side of the mirror housing. A second sensor located inside the mirror measures light coming in from the rear. The mirror will lock in normal position whenever the transmission selector is placed in "REVERSE" position.
