Park System: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Drain the transmission fluid.

  3. Remove the converter housing plug.

  4. Remove the drain plug.

  5. Remove the exhaust.
  6. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL (LS) .
  7. WARNING: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety chain. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  8. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  9. Remove the shift cable bracket.

  10. Remove the transmission mount.

  11. Disconnect the shift cable.

  12. Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor connector.

  13. NOTE: The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable, clean and inspect for damage; if not damaged, the gasket should be reused.

  14. Remove the transmission fluid pan and gasket.
  15. Remove the transmission fluid filter.

  16. Remove the digital TR sensor.

  17. Remove the manual control valve detent spring.

  18. CAUTION: To avoid damage, make sure the wrench does not strike the manual valve inner lever pin.

  19. Remove the nut.
  20. Remove the manual lever shaft retaining pin.

  21. Partially remove the manual control lever shaft.

  22. Disconnect the manual valve inner lever from the parking lever actuating rod.

  23. Remove the manual valve inner lever.

  24. Remove the nut and discard.

  25. Using the special tool, remove the output shaft flange.

  26. NOTE: If damage is found to the parking gear, the transmission must be removed and disassembled.
    NOTE: The parking pawl, parking pawl return spring and parking pawl shaft may fall out during removal of the extension housing.

  27. Remove the extension housing.
  28. Remove and discard the gasket. Inspect the parking pawl, parking pawl return spring, and the parking pawl shaft. Discard components if damaged or worn.

  29. Remove the parking lever actuating rod.
