Pinpoint Test E: DTC 1897 - Steering VAPS Circuit Loop Failure

E1 ISOLATE POWER STEERING VALVE SOLENOID 

WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be turned off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.
• Turn the air suspension switch off.
• Raise and support the vehicle. REFER to JACKING & HOISTING .
• Disconnect: Power Steering Valve Solenoid C120.
• Measure the resistance across the valve solenoid terminals.
• Is the resistance approximately 6.4 ohms? 

Yes 

GO to E2

No 

INSTALL a new valve solenoid. CLEAR The DTC. REPEAT the self-test to verify the repair.

E2 CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 

• Disconnect: Air Suspension Module C2131b.
• Measure the resistance between the air suspension module C2131b pin 14, circuit 114 (LB/YE), harness side and the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 2, circuit 114 (LB/YE) harness side; and between the air suspension module C2131b pin 26, circuit 115 (LG/BK), harness side and the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 1, circuit 115 (LG/BK), harness side.
• Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

Yes 

GO to E3.

No 

REPAIR the open circuit (s). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test to verify the repair.

E3 CHECK THE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 

• Measure the resistance between the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 1, circuit 115 (LG/BK), harness side and ground, and the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 2, circuit 114 (LB/YE), harness side and ground.
• Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

Yes 

REPAIR the short to ground. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test to verify the repair.

No 

GO to E4.

E4 CHECK THE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY 

• Measure the voltage between the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 1, circuit 115 (LG/BK), harness side and ground, and the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 2, circuit 114 (LB/YE), harness side and ground.
• Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 

Yes 

REPAIR the short to battery. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test to verify the repair.

No 

GO to E5.

E5 CHECK THE CIRCUITS FOR A WIRE-TO-WIRE SHORT 

• Measure the resistance between the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 2, circuit 114 (LB/YE), harness side and the power steering valve solenoid C120 pin 1, circuit 115 (LG/BK), harness side.
• Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 

Yes 

INSTALL a new air suspension module. REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SUSPENSION . CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test to verify the repair.

No 

REPAIR the circuits. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test to verify the repair.
