Normal Operation

The PSCM runs a self test when the ignition is set to ON and the module is receiving at least 6 volts. The self test compares the software in the module to the steering gear hardware. If the 2 items are not compatible, the EPAS enters manual mode and sends a request to the IPC message center to alert the vehicle occupants and sends an EPAS _FAILURE message to other modules on the HS-CAN.

This test generates a RVC for a new PSCM when directed to do so from pinpoint test. A RVC is required to order a new PSCM and to document billing for payment.

1. Z1: REFLASH AND VERIFY THE PSCM DTC 
   • Using a diagnostic scan tool, make sure the PSCM is programmed (flashed) to the latest level of software. Follow all diagnostic scan tool instructions.
   • Clear the PSCM DTCs.
   • Ignition OFF.
   • Wait at least 90 seconds for the modules to completely shut off.
   • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
   • Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs.
   • Does the DTC return? 

     Yes	No
     Go to  Z2.	The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time. If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form. When complete, SELECT the "X" in the top right corner to CLOSE this procedure and RETURN to the PTS web site.

2. Z2: OBTAIN PSCM RVC 

• Obtain the PSCM RVC: In order to claim the SLTS labor operation for completion of the PSCM testing, the code obtained through the link below must be included on the associated warranty claim.

  INSTALL a new PSCM.

  REFER to POWER STEERING .

  ORDER a replacement PSCM and INCLUDE the RVC on the form.

  If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.

  When complete, SELECT the "X" in the top right corner to CLOSE this procedure and RETURN to the PTS web site.
