Pre-Collision Assist System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Lincoln Continental. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The pre-collision assist system is an additional safety feature equipped on vehicles with adaptive cruise control that assists the driver in avoiding a collision. The CCM and the IPMA scan the area in front of the vehicle. If the modules detect that the vehicle is rapidly approaching an object in the vehicle's path of travel, the system will notify the driver with visual and audible alerts. If the driver fails to respond or take action, the vehicle's braking system will apply the brakes to reduce vehicle speed. This helps the driver avoid an imminent collision or helps to reduce damage caused by the impact. The system functions whether the adaptive cruise control system is turned on or off.
