Catalyst Monitor Sensor: Removal

NOTE: When removing any turbocharger air intake system components, make sure to cover any open ports to prevent debris from entering the system. The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. All components need to be inspected and cleaned prior to installation or reassembly.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

All sensors 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

    Right hand Catalyst monitor sensor 

  2. Remove the RH upper air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
  3. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

  4. Loosen the clamp and position the lower RH air cleaner outlet pipe away from the turbocharger.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  5. Release the clamps and disconnect the tubes. Remove the bolt from the lower air cleaner outlet pipe and position aside.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  6. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe LH side. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
  7. Loosen the clamp and separate the RHCAC intake lower pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  8. Loosen the clamp and separate the RHCAC intake upper pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    1. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    2. Detach the retainer and position the EVAP canister purge valve tube aside.

  9. Detach the coolant hose from the starter motor bracket.

    1. Remove the bolt.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    2. Disconnect the bypass valve electrical connector and remove the CAC intake pipe RH.

  10. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor wire retainer and electrical connector.

  11. Remove the LH front wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  12. Apply penetrating oil to sensor, using the special tool remove the Catalyst monitor sensor. Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.

    Left hand Catalyst monitor sensor 

  13. Remove the LH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
  14. Apply penetrating oil to sensor, using the special tool remove the Catalyst monitor sensor. Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.
