Heat Hazard Sensor

  1. To check system operation, turn ignition on. The "OVER HEAT EXH SYSTEM" light should activate. Start engine and light should go out.
  2. Remove right seat and lift up floor mat. Disconnect heat hazard sensor connector. Connect jumper wire between connector terminals. Check that "OVER HEAT EXH SYSTEM" light activates.
  3. To check heat hazard sensor, remove sensor. Wrap sensor and thermometer with aluminum foil to prevent oil penetration. Place thermometer and sensor in container of oil.
  4. Connect test light and battery to sensor terminals. See Fig 1 . Heat oil and note temperature in the aluminum foil when the test light activates. Test light should activate when temperature reaches 221-239°F (105-115°C). Replace sensor if not within specification.
CAUTION: DO NOT  allow oil temperature to exceed 302°F (150°C).
