SERVIC PROCEDURE
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may come on with many different codes (5 or more) stored in memory. Possible causes are low alternator output or low battery voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
If multiple codes are retrieved, check condition of the battery and charging system. Begin with checking dark current and base voltage. Load test and check charging under full load.
NOTE:
If alternator output is low be sure to check for corroded or high resistance connections at the alternator, battery, and ignition switch before replacing the alternator. If codes still appear, use the diagnostics section in the wsm for additional procedures.
