Code 24 - SAFING Sensor Diagnostic Circuit Open Or Low Resistance In Front Impact Sensor: Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Ford Pickup, 1995 Ford F-Super Duty, 1995 Ford Cab & Chassis, and 1995 Ford Bronco. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Each front impact sensor has an internal resistor. Diagnostic monitor uses these resistors in combination with 2 resistors inside diagnostic monitor to create a tightly controlled diagnostic voltage at terminals No. 11 and 12. Resistors inside diagnostic monitor are connected to terminals No. 11 (circuit No. 614) and 12 (circuit No. 623) and are equal in value. Circuits No. 614 and 623 are connected together inside safing sensor. If connection between circuits No. 614 and 623 inside safing sensor is broken, resistor on terminal No. 12 is no longer in diagnostic circuit. Both resistors are needed to pull diagnostic voltage up to correct value.
