Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage of the Delta Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) Sensor on certain 2001-2002 Tribute and 2001-2002 B4000 Truck vehicles. The extended warranty is available for 5 years from the original warranty start date or 74,000 miles, whichever occurs first. (This warranty extension adds 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, to the DPFE Sensor's base warranty coverage of 36 months/50,000 miles.) This warranty extension program is provided in the interest of customer satisfaction.
A malfunctioning DPFE Sensor may illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or cause poor driveability. Symptoms may include rough running, lack of power, surge, or decreased fuel economy. Failure of the DPFE Sensor will not cause failure of other components. Other components that can cause these symptoms are not covered under this extended warranty program.
This is not a recall. This is a warranty extension for the specified part only. Inspection and replacement of non-failed parts will not be eligible for reimbursement to the dealer or customer. This program extends the warranty period for actual failures due to defects in workmanship or materials in accordance with Mazda Warranty Policy and Procedures.
Owners of subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail beginning October 1, 2004.

WARRANTY EXTENSION
For certain 2001-2002 Tribute and 2001-2002 B4000 Truck vehicles, the warranty coverage for the DPFE Sensor is extended. The extended warranty is available for 5 years from the original warranty start date or 74,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

A malfunctioning DPFE Sensor may illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or cause poor driveability. Symptoms may include rough running, lack of power, surge, or decreased fuel economy.

If eMDCS displays: Action to perform: SSP 59 OPEN Proceed to "REPAIR PROCEDURE." Replace only if DPFE Sensor defective SSP 59 CLOSED Proceed to "REPAIR PROCEDURE." Replace only if DPFE Sensor defective SSP 59 is not displayed SSP does not apply to this vehicle. Return vehicle to inventory or customer NOTE: Because this is a warranty extension program, application of a campaign label is not necessary, even when replacing the sensor.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
- Retrieve DTC(s).
- If P0401, P0402, P1400, or P1401 are present, turn ignition OFF and replace the DPFE sensor. Then proceed to Step 2.
- If no DTC is retrieved, proceed with the appropriate electrical/driveability diagnosis using the Workshop Manual.
- Clear DTC(s).
- Verify the repair by performing Key On Engine Off (KOEO) and Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test.

Dear Mazda Owner:
Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program to extend the warranty coverage of the Delta Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) Sensor on certain 2001-2002 Tribute and 2001-2002 B4000 Truck vehicles. While the potential for failure is unlikely, this warranty extension adds 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, to the DPFE Sensor's base warranty coverage of 36 months/50,000 miles. In the interest of customer satisfaction, this warranty extension program is available for 5 years or 74,000 miles from the original warranty start date, whichever comes first.
If your vehicle is functioning normally, there is no need to contact your dealer. We suggest keeping this letter with the vehicle's warranty information for future reference.
Vehicles with a malfunctioning DPFE Sensor may illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or experience poor driveability. Symptoms may include rough running, lack of power, surge, or decreased fuel economy. Should a symptom occur, please make an appointment with your Mazda dealer to have your vehicle diagnosed. If the malfunction is due to a failure of the DPFE Sensor during the terms of this warranty extension program, it will be repaired free of charge. Failure of the DPFE Sensor will not cause failure of other components. Other components that can cause these symptoms are not covered under this extended warranty program. This extension only covers the DPFE Sensor.

If you have already paid for the inspection/replacement of the DPFE Sensor, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable repair expenses based on Mazda's repair standards. Please complete the enclosed "Reimbursement Application Form," include the necessary documentation, and mail it to us in the pre-addressed envelope provided, allowing 6-8 weeks for processing.
If you have moved or no longer own your Mazda vehicle, please complete the enclosed prepaid Information Change Card as soon as possible. This enables us to update our records and notify the current owner. Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.

- Your name and address at the time of repair
- Mail this reimbursement application form in the enclosed envelope before October 2005

To apply for reimbursement under this plan:
- Complete the Reimbursement Application Form found on the reverse side of this page.
- Mail the Reimbursement Application Form with a legible copy of the paid repair order and/or invoice using the enclosed envelope.
- Retain copies of the paid repair order or invoice and this application form for your records.
If you wish to correspond with Mazda regarding this reimbursement plan, please write to the above address and refer to your vehicle identification number (VIN).
Any reimbursement application form that is incomplete, illegible, or sent without the legible copy of the paid repair order or invoice will be returned for completion. If Mazda has any questions concerning your application for reimbursement, you may be contacted. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing.
