Test E: Charging System Warning Indicator Is Off With Ignition Switch In Run Position & Engine Off

NOTE: For circuit and connector identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  and CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  .

Check Charging System Warning Indicator  Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then disconnect generator electrical connector A-168. Connect a fused (15-A) jumper wire between generator connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If charging system warning indicator illuminates, if equipped with 3.0L or 4.0L engine, replace voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If equipped with 2.3L engine, replace generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If charging system warning indicator does not illuminate, inspect instrument cluster. See CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER ON under SYMPTOM TESTS in appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article under ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
