Detection Condition

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda MPV and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

PCM monitors Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor input with throttle valve opening and engine speed. If input readings are not consistent with predetermined inputs, DTC is set. If mass airflow is less than 8.93 gram/sec. for 5 seconds and throttle opening is more than 50 percent with engine idling, mass airflow amount is to low. If mass airflow is more than 103 gram/sec. for 5 seconds and engine speed is less than 2000 RPM, mass airflow amount is to high. This is a continuous monitor. MIL is illuminated if PCM detects malfunction in 2 consecutive drive cycles.
