Possible Causes

AUDIO UNIT INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 1 THE AUDIO UNIT IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE AUDIO UNIT
  • Key ON.
  • Turn the audio unit on.
  • Is the audio unit display illuminated? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 3.
2 CHECK FOR SOUND COMING FROM THE SPEAKERS
  • Verify that sound is coming from the speakers.
  • Is there sound coming from the speakers? 
Yes Go to next step.
No See PINPOINT TEST 3: POOR QUALITY/NO SOUND FROM ONE OR MORE SPEAKERS (NOT ALL SPEAKERS) 
3 CHECK CIRCUITS (LG/V) AND (B/P) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Audio unit 0920-201.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between the audio unit 0920-201 pin 9, (LG/V), harness side and ground; and between the audio unit 0920-201 pin 10, (B/P), harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Verify the smart junction box (SJB) fuse 6 (10A) or fuse 24 (20A) is OK. If OK, repair the circuit in question. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (B/LG) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure the resistance between the audio unit 0920-201 pin 11, (B/LG), harness side and ground; and between the audio unit 0920-201 pin 16, (B/LG), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Replace the audio unit. See AUDIO UNIT . TEST the system for normal operation after the repair.
No Repair the circuit in question. Test the system for normal operation.
