Possible Causes

CAUTION:
  • Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE (4WD) CONTROL MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO DIAGNOSTIC TOOL PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PIN POINT TEST 4 FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE (4WD) CONTROL MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE 0318-02 FOR DAMAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: 4WD control module 0318-02.
  • Inspect the 4WD control module 0318-02 for damage.
  • Is the 4WD control module 0318-02 OK? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair the 4WD control module 0318-02. Carry out the WDS or equivalent tester data link test.
2 CHECK THE ISO 9141 CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE DLC AND THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the 4WD control module 0318-02 pin 4, circuit (LB/W), harness side and the DLC D-01 pin 7, circuit (LB/W), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (LB/W) for an open. Connect the 4WD control module 0318-02. Carry out the WDS or equivalent tester data link test.
3 CHECK FOR CORRECT 4WD CONTROL MODULE OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the 4WD control module connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the 4WD control module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new 4WD control module. See 4WD CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION . Carry out the WDS or equivalent tester data link test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Repeat the self-test. Carry out the WDS or equivalent tester data link test.
