Engine Removal/Installation: Notes

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the engine coolant. (See COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS .)
- Drain the ATF. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT .)
- Remove the plug hole plate. (See TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the P/S oil pump pipes and drain the P/S fluid reservoir. (See POWER STEERING OIL PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the splash shield (RH).
- Remove the joint shaft (RH). (See AXLE SHAFT .)
- Disconnect the drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle. (See INTERMEDIATE SHAFT .)
- Remove the battery and battery tray.
- Remove the air cleaner, intake air duct, accelerator cable and bracket, and vacuum hose. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the ATF filter tube and selector cable. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the cruise control actuator. (See CRUISE ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the radiator. (See RADIATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the plastic fuel hose. (See PLASTIC FUEL HOSE REMOVAL NOTE

- Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
- Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel and ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure". (See FUEL LINE SAFETY PROCEDURE .)
- Disconnect the PCM wiring harness (center connector at PCM). (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
.)NOTE:
- Do not disconnect the engine side of this harness.
- Pull harness through the dash lower panel and into the engine compartment.
- Remove the TWC (LH) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the front pipe. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVER BELT REPLACEMENT .)
- Remove the A/C compressor with the pipe still connected. Position the A/C compressor so that it is out of the way. Use wire or rope to secure.
- Remove the generator and bracket. (See GENERATOR .)
- Removal in the order indicated in the figure.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Start the engine and:
- Inspect for the engine oil, engine coolant, transaxle oil and fuel leakage.
- Verify the ignition timing, idle mixture. (See IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION .) (See IDLE SPEED INSPECTION .) (See IDLE MIXTURE INSPECTION .)
NOTE:- If the engine is overhauled and installed to the vehicle, perform the road test and verify that there is no abnormality.
