Symptom and Conditions

Customer complaint air bag light on with code B1342

Repair Procedure

Some 2007-2008 Ranger vehicles may exhibit air bag Warning indicator on with DTC B1342 (ECU internal fault) in the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System module. DTC B1342 may also be set due to a fault in the belt tension sensor (BTS) system. Prior to replacing any components, disconnect the BTS (located at the front passenger safety belt anchor point) and re-run self test. This may generate an additional BTS specific DTC. Note: Passenger safety belt retractor assembly is located in the passenger side b-pillar or the rear door.

If B1342 is still on-demand, reconnect BTS and follow normal workshop manual (WSM) diagnosis for code B1342.

If B1342 is no longer present then the problem is not in the module and the BTS system should be inspected using Pinpoint test 16 located on page 08-01-98 .
