Cruise Control System Pinpoint Test 6: Flash Code 2 - Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch Circuit Failure

FLASH CODE 2 - BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH CIRCUIT FAILURE - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 6 FLASH CODE 2 - BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH CIRCUIT FAILURE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE STOPLAMP OPERATION
  • Apply and release the brake pedal while observing the stoplamps.
  • Do the stoplamps operate correctly?
Yes Go to next step.
No See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - STOPLAMPS to diagnose the stoplamps.
2 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: cruise control servo 0120-101.
  • Measure the resistance between the cruise control servo connector 0120-101 pin 4 circuit BR/G, harness side and the cruise control servo connector 0120-101 pin 10 circuit B/GY, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Install a new cruise control servo. See CRUISE CONTROL SERVO REMOVAL / INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
No If equipped with a manual transmission or an automatic transmission with clutch pedal position (CPP) wiring, Go to next step. Otherwise, Go to step 5.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT BR/G FOR AN OPEN TO THE CPP SWITCH
  • Disconnect CPP 0119-05 (or jumper plug).
  • Measure the resistance between the CPP connector 0119-05 pin 4 circuit BR/G, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 5.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT BR/G FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the cruise control actuator connector 0120-101 pin 4 circuit BR/G, harness side and the CPP switch connector 0119-05 pin 3 circuit BR/G, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Install a new CPP switch (or jumper plug). See CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (CPP) SWITCH REMOVAL / INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT B/Y FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: brake pedal position (BPP) switch 0918-106.
  • Measure the resistance between the BPP switch 0918-106 pin 5 circuit B/Y harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation
6 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
  • Install a fused (5A) jumper wire between the BPP switch connector 0918-106 pin 4 circuit BR/G, harness side and the BPP switch connector 0918-01 pin 5 circuit B/Y, harness side.
  • Measure the resistance between the cruise control servo connector 0120-101 pin 4 circuit BR/G, harness side and the cruise control servo connector 0120-101 pin 10 circuit B/GY, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Install a new BPP switch. See STOPLAMP SWITCH . Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
