Cooling System Pinpoint Test 4: Block Heater Does Not Operate Properly

BLOCK HEATER DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 4 BLOCK HEATER DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE BLOCK HEATER CABLE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect engine block heater connector.
  • Check resistance in circuits 1, 2, and 3 of the block heater.
  • Is the resistance in circuits 1, 2, and 3 less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Replace the block heater.
See ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 2.3L--> for 2.3L engine.
See ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 3.0L--> for 3.0L engine.
See ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 4.0L--> for 4.0L engine.
No Replace the block heater cable.
See ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 2.3L--> for 2.3L engine.
See ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 3.0L--> for 3.0L engine.
See ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 4.0L--> for 4.0L engine.
Test the system for normal operation.
