SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT RELEASE/LOCK CORRECTLY - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

1 SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT RELEASE/LOCK CORRECTLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK FOR CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (CPP) JUMPER PLUG ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLES
  • Inspect CPP jumper plug for correct installation.
  • Is the CPP jumper plug correctly installed?
Yes Go to next step.
No Install the CPP jumper plug. Test the system for normal operation.
2 TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS
  • Apply the brake pedal and view the brake lights.
  • Do the brake lights illuminate?
Yes Go to step 8.
No Go to next step.
3 TEST F2.32 (5A)
  • Key OFF.
  • Check fuse: F2.32 (5A)
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to step 5.
No Go to next step.
4 TEST CIRCUIT (V/R) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect the brake pedal position (BPP) switch connector 0918-106.
  • Measure the resistance between the BPP switch 0918-106 pin 3, circuit (V/R) and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (V/R) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
5 TEST CIRCUIT (V/R) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the output side of fuse F2.32 (5A) and the BPP switch 0918-106 pin 3, circuit (V/R).
  • Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (V/R) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
6 TEST THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH
  • Measure the resistance of the brake pedal position (BPP) switch between pin 2 and pin 3 while open (OFF) and closed (ON).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the BPP switch in the ON position and greater than 10,000 ohms with the BPP switch in the OFF position?
Yes Go to next step.
No INSTALL a new BPP switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
7 TEST CIRCUIT (BR/G) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect the brake shift interlock connector 0518-01.
  • Measure the resistance between the brake shift interlock 0518-01 pin 3, circuit (BR/G) and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (BR/G) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
8 TEST CIRCUIT (BR/G) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between brake shift interlock 0518-01 pin 3, circuit (BR/G) and the brake pedal position (BPP) switch 0918-106 pin 4, circuit (BR/G).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (BR/G) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
9 TEST FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT (Y/V)
  • Key on, engine off (KOEO)
  • Measure the voltage between the brake shift interlock 0518-01 pin 1, circuit (Y/V) and ground.
  • Is voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to step 13.
No Go to next step.
10 TEST FUSE F2.20(10A)
  • Key in start position.
  • Check fuse: F2.20 (10A)
  • Is the resistance of the fuse less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to step 12.
No Go to next step.
11 TEST CIRCUIT (Y/V) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Measure the resistance between the brake shift interlock 0518-01 pin 1, circuit (Y/V) and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
12 TEST CIRCUIT (Y/V) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the output side of fuse F2.20 (10A) and the brake shift interlock 0918-106 pin 1, circuit (Y/V).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (Y/V) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
13 TEST CIRCUIT (B/Y) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the brake shift interlock 0918-106 pin 2, circuit (B/Y) and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new brake shift interlock. TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR circuit (B/Y) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
