Normal Operation

When the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter PANIC button is pressed, the smart junction box (SJB) grounds the horn relay which supplies voltage to activate the horn. The SJB also grounds the parking lamp relay which supplies voltage to activate the parking lamps

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following: 

PANIC FEATURE INOPERATIVE (PINPOINT TEST 6)

PINPOINT TEST 6 THE PANIC FEATURE IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE RKE TRANSMITTER OPERATION
  • Lock and unlock the doors using the RKE transmitter
  • Do the doors lock and unlock correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to PINPOINT TEST 4: THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK/UNLOCK USING THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER 
2 CHECK THE PARKING LAMP OPERATION
  • Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
  • Do the parking lamps operate correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
No DIAGNOSE the inoperative parking lamps. See PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS , .
3 CHECK THE HORN OPERATION
  • Press the horn switch.
  • Does the horn operate correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
No DIAGNOSE the inoperative horn. See PINPOINT TEST 1: THE HORN IS INOPERATIVE .
4 CHECK THE LAST TRANSMITTER IDENTIFICATION CODE (TIC) RECEIVED
NOTE:
  • Using the scan tool, select "Toolbox", "Body", then "Security" to access the remote keyless entry tests.

  • Connect the integrated diagnostic system (IDS) or equivalent tester.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: Remote Keyless Entry.
  • Monitor the RKE transmitter TIC/DATA through the scan tool menus.
  • Press and release the PANIC button on both RKE transmitters.
  • Does the word PANIC appear after pressing the PANIC buttons on both RKE transmitters? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPLACE the inoperative RKE transmitter. PROGRAM all the RKE transmitters. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed.
5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes INSTALL a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . PROGRAM all the RKE transmitters. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
