Automatic Transmission External Controls Pinpoint Test 3: The Transmission Control Switch (Over-Drive Od, On/Off) Is Not Operating Properly

TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (OVERDRIVE ON/OFF) IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 3 TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (OVERDRIVE ON/OFF) IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) FUSE 20(10A)
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure resistance of SJB fuse 20 (10A).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Reinstall the fuse. Go to step 3.
No Go to the next step.
2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (TCS)
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Transmission control switch (TCS) connector 0140-13.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage on circuit (Y/V) at the TCS 0140-13 pin 1 and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH (TCS)
  • Measure the resistance between the TCS 0140-13 pin 1 and the TCS 0140-13 pin 2 component side, while pressing and releasing the TCS.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the TCS depressed and greater than 10,000 ohms with the TCS released?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Install a new TCS. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUITS (BR/G) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: PCM Transmission connector 0140-175b.
  • Measure the resistance of circuit (BR/G) between the TCS 0140-13 pin 2 and the PCM 0140-175b pin 8.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms for both circuits?
Yes Install a new PCM. Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
