Clock Spring Removal/Installation [Standard Deployment Control System]: Notes

CAUTION:

If the disc on the combination switch is deformed or has foreign matter adhering to it, performance of the steering angle sensor may be reduced, causing abnormal operation. When handling the clock spring, be careful not to deform the disc and make sure there is no foreign matter on it.

Switch the ignition off.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5] .)
Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .)
Remove the steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Disconnect the clock spring connector.
Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector. (with steering angle sensor)
Remove the tab direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the clock spring.

Install in the reverse order of removal. (See CLOCK SPRING INSTALLATION NOTE .)
Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag system warning light does not operate in the manner described above, there are malfunctions in the system. Inspect the system using the on-board diagnostic. (See FLOWCHART [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .)
