Curtain Air Bag Module Removal/Installation [Standard Deployment Control System]: Notes

WARNING:

Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) Switch the ignition off.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more . (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5] .)
Remove the following parts:
1. Sunroof seaming welt (with sunroof system) (See SUNROOF UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2. A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
3. Sunvisor (See SUNVISOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. Front map light (dual light type) (See FRONT MAP LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5. Assist handle (See ASSIST HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6. Front scuff plate (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
7. Rear scuff plate (See REAR SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
8. B-pillar lower trim (See B-PILLAR LOWER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
9. Adjust anchor cover (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
10. Upper anchor installation bolt on the seat belt (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
11. B-pillar upper trim (See B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Set the tire house trim aside. (See TIRE HOUSE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the following parts:
1. C-pillar trim (See C-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL .) (See UPPER PANEL INSTALLATION .)
3. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. Shift lever knob (MTX) (See MANUAL TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [C66M-R] .)
5. Selector lever knob (ATX) (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6. Shift panel (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
7. Front console box (See FRONT CONSOLE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
8. CD player (with CD player) (See CD PLAYER REMOVAL .) (See CD PLAYER INSTALLATION .)
9. Glove compartment (See GLOVE COMPARTMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
10. Decoration panel (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
11. Side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
12. Front console (See FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the headliner. (See HEADLINER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.

Disconnect the connector.
Remove the clip. (See CLIP REMOVAL NOTE .)
Remove the bolts.
Pull guide A, B, C, D and E in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.
Remove the curtain air bag module.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .)
